Durham Football Club - a brief history.

Durham Football Club started in 2008 as Sacriston Community Football Club with just 2 junior teams. They trained at Fyndoune Community College and were members of the Russell Foster Youth League.

The Club quickly grew and achieved early success attracting some very talented youngsters. In the main the teams were managed by parents who in turn were encouraged to obtain their coaching qualifications culminating in the Club achieving Charter Standard status.

By 2013 the Club had outgrown Sacriston and it was decided to look for somewhere with a 3G pitch and a senior team where players could move into after they had left junior football.

Durham City Football Club had no youth set up, so it was decided that we joined them and be their junior section. However, within a month, they had to leave their ground at New Ferens Park and relocate to Consett.

The relationship was a very flimsy one and despite assurances that they were getting a new ground nothing materialised. They then moved to groundshare with Willington and in early 2020 they announced that they were setting up a youth academy in Stokesley.

It was therefore decided that the Club would go its own way and change its name to Durham Football Club.

In 2023 Durham Football Club completed a merger with Durham Corinthians, a senior side playing at New Ferens Park in the Wearside League. The merger meant that players joining in infants school would have a pathway through to senior football as well as allowing the club to have a home within the City of Durham.
